#1 – Setter – Katelyn McDonald

Katelyn is a 5’11” setter that hails from Bend, Oregon. She played her club volleyball for High Desert Volleyball Club and was a four-year starter for her high school varsity squad. Katelyn is a strong athlete with good court awareness. She has a solid all-around game and is a consistent performer.

#2 – Outside Hitter – Emily Edmonds

Emily is a 6’0” outside hitter from Ontario, Oregon. She played her club volleyball for Idaho Rush Volleyball Club and was a four-year starter for her high school varsity squad. Emily is a powerful hitter with a lot of experience at the collegiate level. She will be a key player for the team this season.

#3 – Middle Blocker – Sarah Spencer

Sarah is a 6’2” middle blocker from Redmond, Oregon. She played her club volleyball for Bend Volleyball Club and was a four-year starter for her high school varsity squad. Sarah is a tall, physical player with good footwork. She is a force at the net and will be an important player in the middle for the team this season.

#4 – Right Side – Haley VanLoo

Haley is a 6’1” right side from Bend, Oregon. She played her club volleyball for High Desert Volleyball Club and was a four-year starter for her high school varsity squad. Haley is a strong, athletic player with good ball control. She is versatile and can play both right side and outside hitter.

#5 – Defensive Specialist/Libero – Brooklyn Barker

Brooklyn is a 5’5” defensive specialist/libero from Boise, Idaho. She played her club volleyball for Idaho Sparks Volleyball Club and was a four-year starter for her high school varsity squad. Brooklyn is quick and aggressive on defense. She has good ball control and is a consistent passer.

The EOU Volleyball team is made up of 12 hardworking and determined student-athletes. They have a passion for the game and strive to be the best they can be both on and off the court. Get to know the team a little better below!

#1 – Alyssa Soares

Alyssa Soares is a 5’11” outside hitter from Gresham, Oregon. She is a junior and is majoring in Biology. Alyssa has been playing volleyball since she was 8 years old and started on varsity in high school as a sophomore. Her favorite part of volleyball is the team aspect and the friendships she has made through the sport. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys hanging out with friends, going on hikes, and playing with her dog.

#2 – Kennedy Nicholas

Kennedy Nicholas is a 5’8” setter from Vancouver, Washington. She is a sophomore and is majoring in Exercise Science. Kennedy started playing volleyball in middle school and has played on varsity all through high school. She chose to come to EOU because she loved the small-town feel and the family atmosphere of the team. In her free time, Kennedy enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going to the beach, and playing tennis.

Maryssa Becker is a 6’2” middle blocker from Bend, Oregon. She is a freshman and is undecided about her major. Maryssa started playing volleyball in high school and was a member of the varsity team all four years. She chose EOU because she loved the location and the small class sizes. In her free time, Maryssa enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.

Katelynn Ducey is a 5’11” right-side hitter from Ontario, Oregon. She is a sophomore and is majoring in Biology. Katelynn started playing volleyball in middle school and played on varsity all through high school. She chose EOU because she loved the location and the small class sizes. In her free time, Katelynn enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.

#5 – Makayla Hoyt

Makayla Hoyt is a 5’9” libero from Milton-Freewater, Oregon. She is a sophomore and is majoring in Biology. Makayla started playing volleyball in high school and played on varsity all four years. She chose EOU because she loved the location and the small class sizes. In her free time, Makayla enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going to the movies, and playing video games.

#6 – Sierra Brown

Sierra Brown is a 6’0” outside hitter from Caldwell, Idaho. She is a senior and is majoring in Exercise Science. Sierra started playing volleyball in high school and played on varsity all four years. She chose EOU because she loved the location and the small class sizes. In her free time, Sierra enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going on hikes, and playing tennis.

Hannah Swanson is a 5’9” setter from Baker City, Oregon. She is a freshman and is undecided about her major. Makenzie Filer is a 5’11” setter/right-side hitter from Ontario, Oregon. She is a sophomore and is majoring in biology. Makenzie is a very versatile player and is a key asset to the team.

Ally Hall is a 5’10” outside hitter from Kuna, Idaho. She is a freshman and is undecided about her major. Ally is a very powerful hitter and is a real force on the court.

Katie Hendricks is a 6’0” middle blocker from Walla Walla, Washington. She is a junior and is majoring in psychology. Katie is a very smart player and uses her head to her advantage on the court.

Hayley Hodgen is a 5’7” libero from Redmond, Oregon. She is a senior and is majoring in business administration. Hayley is a very quick player and is very good at digging the ball.

Emily Leavitt is a 6’1” outside hitter from Caldwell, Idaho. She is a sophomore and is majoring in physical education. Emily is a very athletic player and brings a lot of energy to the court.

Carly Mauch is a 5’8” setter from Boise, Idaho. She is a junior and is majoring in communication disorders. Carly is a very good setter and does a great job of running the offense.

EOU Volleyball Team Stats

​The EOU volleyball team has an impressive roster this season. The team is led by senior setter/right-side hitter Katelynn Hargett, who has racked up 3,334 assists and 1,236 digs in her career. Hargett is joined by fellow veterans Tasha Pilkington (outside hitter), Sydney Owens (middle blocker), and Kourtney Carey (libero).

This season, the team has a .268 hitting percentage, with 1,316 kills and 1,052 digs. They have also recorded 94 aces and 70 blocks. The team’s top performers so far this season include Pilkington, who has recorded 239 kills and a .305 hitting percentage, and Hargett, who has notched 1,087 assists and a .340 hitting percentage.

The team’s success this season can be attributed to their experience and depth. The team has eight veterans, four juniors, and four sophomores. They also have two redshirt freshmen. This depth has allowed the team to maintain a high level of play even when injuries or other setbacks occur.

The team’s goal this season is to make it to the NCAA Division II tournament. The team is currently ranked fifth in the region, and if they can maintain their ranking, they should earn a spot in the tournament.
